oh ok now it is different, now you actually have to solve it
Oh okay
takes a few steps, number one, add 1 to both sides, get \[x^2+8x=20\] then add 16 to both sides (like you said) get \[x^2+8x+16=36\]
the reason for adding 16 is that the left hand side is a "perfect square" it is \[(x+4)^2=36\]

now you can take the square root of both sides (carefully) and get \[x+4=-6, x+4=6\]
finally subtract 4 from both sides, get \[x=-1, x=2\] there are two answers
we can do another one if you like, they take a bit getting used to
so just choice A?
no dear, there are two answer, \(x=2\) and \(x=-10\)
