Can someone explain step by step how to solve this problem? (x^4-2x^3-x+2) divided by (x^3-1)
I believe the synthetic division would also work bec x^3-1 x=1
Yeah I know I have to use synthetic division but I'm just a little confused on how to do it. Like for the first part, x^3 goes into x^4 three times right? so then the first part is x^3. But then my notes say I have to multiple something and I'm just getting very confused
ok how would I do that then? I would prefer that over the long divison haha
x^4-2x^3+0x^2-x+2 did you write 0 for x^2 term ?
synthetic division only works if the degree of the denominator is 1
Ahh, that is what I thought initially
@S4Sensitiveandshy no should I
so it won't work on this one because x^3-1=0 x=1 it still one
as @steve816 wrote (but deleted for some reason?) you'll need to use polynomial long division
ok so I can't use synthetic division, how do I use the long division?
