This is an old question but I will attempt an answer so this question can be closed. in mathematics an inversely proportional relationship between two variables, in this case, P and V, implies that their product is equal to a constant k so P1V1 = P2V2 one of the most famous examples of boyle's law is a gas in a piston, where a fixed, finite amount of gas will increase in volume if the pressure is decreased or decrease in volume if the pressure increases
