What is the mass (in kg) of CO2 emitted when 5.25 L of octane (C8H18) is combusted in a car engine? The amount of CO2 emitted is 8.62 lb CO2 /gallon of C8H18 (1 gallon = 3.79 L) (1 kg = 2.20 lb)

Gdeinward:
What you have to do is convert units. DO you have any expirience with this?
Xotchil:
No ://
Ferredoxin4:
1. Knowing rules of combustion... C8H18 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O 2. Balance the equation 2C8H18 + 25O2 -> 16CO2 + 18H2O ... After reading more I found out they give the amt of CO2, silly me.
Ferredoxin4:
just use conversion units and solve. 5.25 L C8H18 * (1 gallon/3.79 L) * (8.62 lb CO2/1 gallon C8H18) * (1 kg/2.20 lb) = your answer
