how do I solve for X?
I got 7.3 but idk how to explain it
b=c2﹣a2=11.22﹣8.52≈7.29315
what
how would I type that in tho?
that's the Pythagorean theorem:\[a^2+b^2=c^2\] a and b are the legs and c is the hypotenuse (longest side) so it would be this, basically\[x^2+8.5^2=11.2^2\]and solve as such
the formatting just got a little bugged up there
Thank you and its fine c:
what's a c colon?
lol a smiley face yk c: ;-; (:
yk? Thanks for the tip
lol no problem
wait are you sure its 11.2?
Also not sure what's fine - are you good or should I keep going? (yes it's 11.2 for hypotenuse \(c\))
idk its just somehow I got 7.3 instead but idk how
oh wait no im solving for x-?
the answer isn't 11.2, that's the hypotenuse if you're looking for \(x\) you have to solve for it based on what josiah and I have written
okay but tbh he made no sense
he just didn't format this right lol\[x^2+8.5^2=11.2^2\]then it would be\(11.2^2-8.5^2\)and he basically solved directly
Okay thank you
do you know how to get that or should I continue? (it's okay if you don't btw, everyone starts somewhere)
Yes I got it, then find the square root of that number
I actually need help with one similar to this
Ok cool :-) just so you can be sure though\[11.2^2-8.5^2=x^2\]\[x=\sqrt{11.2^2-8.5^2}=\sqrt{125.44-72.25}=\sqrt{53.19}\approx7.29315...\]
which is basically what he wrote earlier
