Heyyy is anyone good at earthquakes science? Please help me I really need help.
Please someone
what do you need help with?
So its earthquake science and its a true or false worksheet.
ok
and i do not understand or know what to put like I'm so confused
ok so what's the question or worksheet
ok so one of them is A. earthquakes can be felt by humans
b. earthquakes tend to occur far from plate boundaries
c. Most transform fault produce moderate and shallow quakes
ok now let's start on A. What do you think it is, True or False?
I think its true bc earthquakes do cause diasters and we can feel them but then it says that humans cant feel certain earthquakes so I'm not really sure
so you are correct so the question would be True
bc over 100,000 can be felt by humans and roughly around 100 can cause damage
ohhh ok but humans can not fell 2.5 earthquakes so the answer would still be true?
yes bc mostly they can
okk thanks
ofc now onto b
and im thinking B is false
ok im gonna look at the question rq cuz i wrote it down instead of scrolling
okk
ok and I also made sure that my answer was correct. here is an explanation and tell me if you think it is True or False after reading
ok
"Most earthquakes occur along Plate Boundaries, where plates are moving relative to one another. However, some earthquakes occur away from Plate Boundaries. Most of the earthquakes occur in the middle of the continents."
ok so do you think it is still false or true?
False
ok
I am pretty sure you are correct. just in case could you give me one reason why you think so
the statement was that earthquakes happens away from plate boundaries but faults occur at plate boundaries and earthquakes are created due to the pressure from faults so the statement it false.
Great job! that is right. Now onto C.
ok C has got me really confused
ok what part makes you confused?
the whole statement
bc i think it has a shallow quake but I'm not sure if it is a moderate quake
ok i think you are right with the shallow part.
So does this make you think it is True or False. "Most transform plate boundaries cut through relatively thin oceanic crust, part of the structure of the ocean floor, and produce relatively shallow earthquakes that are only rarely of major magnitude."
oh reading that makes me think that it is false
wait i mean true
Yes, It is True!
it'sall just the tectonic plates shifting causing the ground to shake.
yayy ok and another question is D. earths core is made up of half liquid and half solid
i think thats false bc its made up of iron but then it has a solid layer and a liquid layer
"The core of the Earth is made up mainly of iron, in an outer liquid layer and an inner solid layer. The outer core is where the circulating conducting liquid ge" <<
yea it's all magma but the water in the ground cools it and turns it into rock.
True or False? ik you say false
i think its false
but then theres like the outer layer so I'm not sure
ok so it says that the Core of the Earth is mostly made up of Iron. it also says that an outer liquid layer and an outer solid layer.
sorry inner solid layer
ok so that would make it false bc the question is only stating that the core is made up of half liquid and half solid
Yes Correct!! Good Job!!
and its the outer core that has the liquid and solid right?
the outer core has liquid and the inner is solid
ok the next one is convergent motion occurs when two plates are pushed together
i think that one is true
"When two plates come together, it is known as a convergent boundary. The impact of the colliding plates can cause the edges of one or both plates to buckle up into a mountain ranges or one of the plates may bend down into a deep seafloor trench." True or False?
true
yes!
okkk umm the next one is divergent motion creates reverse faults
ok so by using my resources i have found that, "Reverse faults form when the hanging wall moves up. The forces creating reverse faults are compressional, pushing the sides together. They are common at convergent boundaries. Together, normal and reverse faults are called dip-slip faults, because the movement on them occurs along the dip direction -- either down or up, respectively." based on this what do you think of the question?
I think that it makes the statement false since reverse faults are created at convergent boundaries and not divegent
Yes!!
and then we have S waves shear rock back and forth
i think thats true bc S waves shear rock
you are right!! c:
and then theres: the focus is the point on the surface above the epicenter
"Focus is the first point of movement along a fault where all earthquake waves originate - it is below the surface. The epicenter is the point on the surface above the focus - the place on the surface that would receive the most intense vibrations."
so it would be false since the focus is below the epicenter
yes!!
and the last one is seismic waves last longer on the Earth than on the moon
what do you think, True or False, and why?
true bc seismic waves on the moon last 80% less than seismic waves on earth
Correct!!!
oookk thats the end of it thank you so much<3
ofc, you did so well and im glad i could help!! <3
I know this question is already answered, but this could help you in any other way https://www.usgs.gov/natural-hazards/earthquake-hazards/science/science-earthquakes?qt-science_center_objects=0#qt-science_center_objects
