FexrlessRxby:

What would happen when you dissolve Alka-Seltzer in water?

SmokeyBrown:

Since the Alka-Seltzer "dissolves" in the water, I think it would form a solution of some sort. Are you looking for a more detailed answer than that?

FexrlessRxby:

A little bit since it's part of my chemistry homework.

SmokeyBrown:

There really ought to be a pinned post or something about the whole chat situation, so people won't need to keep asking. Anyway, back to the question at hand. I guess, to give the same information in a more detailed form, the Alka-Seltzer would break apart in the water (I think, due to the covalent forces of the water molecules) and the separated Alka-Seltzer particles would incorporate homogeneously with the water around it in order to form a solution with the water.

FexrlessRxby:

I agree. Also, thanks again.

Vocaloid:

To elaborate a little bit: Alka-Seltzer has sodium bicarbonate in it, which reacts w/ water to release CO2 bubbles. https://sites.tufts.edu/middleschoolcheme/2020/06/19/the-alka-seltzer-reaction/

Vocaloid:

*well, to elaborate a little more, it reacts with the citric acid (proton donor) within the tablet.

FexrlessRxby:

That helps alot too, thanks Vocaloid.

SmokeyBrown:

As expected of a real scientist :)
