@Vocaloid whenever you get the chance~

urlowkey:

Wdym???

Allison:

It's a Chemistry question, if you can't answer it, it's OK. I shouldn't really explain what it means. Thanks for replying though.

AZ:

single bonds are \(\sigma\) bonds double bonds consist of a \(\sigma\) bond and a \(\pi\) bond triple bonds consist of one \(\sigma\) bond and two \(\pi\) bonds

Allison:

Uh huh

AZ:

how many single bonds do you have? how many double bonds do you have? how many triple bonds do you have? for example: if you have 2 double bonds, that means for each double bond you have a sigma bond and a pi bond so if you have two double bonds, then you have 2 sigma bonds and 2 pi bonds and if your molecule had 3 single bonds, then that's 3 sigma bonds and so in all you have 2+3 or 5 sigma bonds and 2 pi bonds

AZ:

you just have to look at each one by one and then add them all up

Allison:

2 double bonds, 1 triple

AZ:

and how many single bonds?

Allison:

6 single bonds

Allison:

Wait

AZ:

I forgot to color one of the double bonds oops but you're right

Allison:

Oh ok I thought I was wrong

AZ:

so we have 6 single bonds 2 double bonds 1 triple bond each single bond is just a sigma bond

AZ:

so we have 6 single bonds so how many sigma bonds so far?

Allison:

6 sigma bonds

AZ:

and then double bonds is made up of 1 sigma bond and 1 pi bond so if we have 2 double bonds, how many sigma and pi bonds do we get from the 2 double bonds?

Allison:

1 sigma 1 pi + 6 sigma bonds form single bonds

Allison:

From*

Allison:

7 sigma, 1 pi

AZ:

hmm not exactly so one double bond gives you 1 sigma and 1 pi bond if you have another double bond, that means you have another sigma and pi bond

Allison:

8 sigma 2 pi

AZ:

there you go and then we have one triple bond which we said consists of 1 sigma bond and 2 pi bonds

Allison:

11 sigma, 8 pi

AZ:

no no triple bond doesn't mean we have 3 triple bonds triple bond is the one with three lines and it's triple because it's a stronger bond because it consists of 2 pi bonds and 1 sigma bond 2 + 1 = 3 hence triple bond

Allison:

Bruh

Allison:

Why did I major in this

AZ:

so like these bonds are between two elements, right? O = C = O there's two bonds here and both of them are double bonds or you could have H H - C - H H there's four single bonds

Allison:

Right

AZ:

so we only had one triple bond and each triple bond consists of 1 sigma bond and 3 pi bonds

Allison:

9 sigma, 10 pi?

AZ:

I think you mixed up your previous answer 6 single bonds --> 6 sigma bonds 2 double bonds --> 2 sigma bonds + 2 pi bonds 1 triple bond --> 1 sigma bond + 2 pi bonds

Allison:

9 sigma 4 pi

AZ:

ta-da!

Allison:

I did mix up my previous answer

Allison:

Let me do this by myself and see

Allison:

3 single bonds - 3 sigma 1 double bond - 1 sigma 1 pi 1 triple bond - 1 sigma 2 pi

Allison:

5 sigma 3 pi

Allison:

?!

AZ:

Well done!
