kekeman:

What is the total number of valence electrons, total domains, bonded atoms, and lone pairs, for the compound PCI3

Tranquility:

Can you draw the Lewis structure for PCl3? Chlorine is a halogen and so each chlorine has 7 valence electrons. Phosphorus is right under nitrogen and is a group 5A element and it has 5 valence electrons. How many total valence electrons are there? How would you draw the structure? How many atoms are bonded to the phosphorus? How many total domains are there around the phosphorus? How many bonding pairs of electrons and how many lone pairs? Add them up to get the total electron domains.

Here is my drawing of the structure: https://snipboard.io/87rjNO.jpg And there are 26 total electrons

kekeman:

And i think that there are 4 total domains, 3 bonded atoms, and 1 lone pairs. Am i right?

That is correct!

kekeman:

Thank you! :)

Tranquility:

My pleasure!
