we want equal numbers of atoms on each side S8 + O2 → SO3 as a rule of thumb start with the most "complex" compound, the SO3 since we have 8 sulfur atoms on the left and only 1 on the right, we can write an 8 in front of SO3 to get S8 + O2 → 8SO3 however, the oxygens are still unbalanced. how would you balance the oxygen atoms, using the same logic?
