multiply x by everything in the other parenthesis and -2 by everything in the parenthesis then combine like terms
I tried that but its confusing. If i go step by step what Im doing can you help
Ok let me write it down on paper
Ok so I'm doing X * \[2x^2\] I'm not sure would that be \[3x^2\] or something else
(x-2)(2x^2-x-3) first lets multiply x by everything in the other parenthesis x(2x^2 - x - 3 ) x * 2x^2 = 2x^3 x * -x = -x^2 x * -3 = -3x So we have 2x^3 - x^2 - 3x We then do the same thing with -2 -2(2x^2 - x - 3) -2 * 2x^2 = -4x^2 -2 * -x = 2x -2 * -3 = 6 We then have -4x^2 + 2x + 6 We then add the two expressiong together (2x^3 - x^2 - 3x) + (-4x^2 + 2x + 6) remove parenthesis 2x^3 - x^2 - 3x -4x^2 + 2x + 6 combine like terms ( like terms are terms with the same variable as well as exponent ) an example of like terms is 2x^2 and 4x^2, they both have a variable of x and a power of 2 -x^2 and -4x^2 are like terms so we combine them -x^2 + -4x^2 = -5x^2 2x and -3x are like terms so we combine them 2x - 3x = -x We're left with 2x^3 - 5x^2 - x + 6
