I mean, I would assume it's 7.9. My evidence is that the question says "7.9 feet wide" Wide meaning width.

Macho14:

that is wrong...

Rylee88:

Hmm, okay my apologies. What about 12.05? What I did was add all of the number together.

GreatScottMarty:

What if you subtract 7.9 - 0.95?

random231:

Try writing the equation of the ellipse first. The general form is x^2/a^2 + y^2/b^2 = 1. Once you have the equation, try plugging in 0.95 in y and solve to find x.

Macho14:

I figured, what would I plug in for a and b? a would be half the diameter and b would be half the height, correct?

Macho14:

wrong, I figured it out. For documentation purposes: formula for ellipse \[x^2/a^2 +y^2/b^2=1\] \[h/2=b\] and \[w/2=a\] \[y=-b+depth\] reconstructed equation: \[x^2/(3.95)^2+(-0.65)^2/(1.6)^2=1\] solve for \[x\] times x by 2 to get the depth.
