Think back to basic arithmetic properties. For the first statement, the matrix on both sides remains the same, so 4 = (3/4)m and you can solve for m For the second row, remember addition is commutative. On both sides the problem is equivalent to H + [1 4 -2] + [3 2 -6] = [-2 3 -1] + [1 4 -2] + [3 2 -6] Notice that the second and third matrices on both sides are the same so you can cross them out and determine what matrix H is equivalent to. Finally, calculate m * H

iosangel:

ok my problem is when i put in the numbers i got [ -7 -112/3 16/3] is this the correct order?

Vocaloid:

I got something a little different 4 = (3/4)m, making m = 16/3 H = [-2, 3, -1] m*H is therefore [-32/3 , 16 , -16/3]

iosangel:

can you please explain how you got that?

Vocaloid:

4 * matrix = (3/4)m * that same matrix So 4 must equal (3/4)m which lets you solve for m For the second statement, H + matrix 2 + matrix 3 = matrix 1 + matrix 2 + matrix 3, so if you subtract matrix 2 and 3 from both sides you get H = matrix 1 H = [-2, 3, -1] Then simply multiply m * H

iosangel:

when you multiply m*H you mean 16/3 * every number in the matrices?

iosangel:

ok thank you i get it now
