four years after a hedge maple tree was planted, its height was 9 feet. eight years after it was planted, the hedge maple tree's height was 12 feet. what is the growth rate of the hedge maple? what was its height when it was planted??

You can think of this as a two point problem: find the equation of a line, given 2 points.
How? Think of years as the x-axis, and height as the y-axis.
What are the points? at year 4, height is 9 (4,9)
at year 8, height is 12 (8,12)
now find h= mt+b (instead of y= mx+b)
m will the be growth rate, and b will be the height of the tree when it was planted.
