factor 3x^2-7x-7

OpenStudy (austinl):

Kinda gnarly to factor... are you familiar with the quadratic formula? \(x=\dfrac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\) for \(ax^2+bx+c=0\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 7 +- sqrt. of -35/ 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but that doesnt sound right

OpenStudy (austinl):

\(x=\dfrac{-(-7)\pm\sqrt{(-7)^2-4(3)(-7)}}{2(3)}=\dfrac{7\pm\sqrt{133}}{6}\) So for our two answers we have, \(x=\dfrac{7+\sqrt{133}}{6}\) AND \(x=\dfrac{7-\sqrt{133}}{6}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay got you
