A 2.0 gram bullet is shot into a tree. It enter at a speed of 3.0*10^4 cm/s and comes to rest after having penetrated 0.05 m in to the tree. What was the average force during the impact?

OpenStudy (perl):

F average = (0 - 3.0*10^4*10^-2) / .05 * 2.0 * 10^-3

OpenStudy (perl):

the average force was 12 newtons

OpenStudy (perl):

I used the fact that F= acceleration * mass F_average= (average acceleration) * mass average acceleration = change in velocity /change in time change cm to 10^-2 m and g to 10^-3 kg

Ok, that makes sense, I was looking at your equation wondering where some of your numbers came from. Thanks for your help.
